Doing Big Boy Things

Khalil is almost 9 months but not quite yet. This week he has been doing big boy things. The daycare has requested that he wear hard bottom shoes because he likes to push toys across the room. He started taking baths in the full size tub. Of course he refuses to sit down, but he was constantly trying to stand up in the infant tub too. He waves goodbye if Mommy holds his arm up. He is walking around everything as well as pulling himself up on anything that can or can not hold him. The biggest move is he has moved upstairs to his crib for sleeping. He outgrew the pack-n-play a while ago but I didn't want to move him upstairs during the winter so we just kept pushing it. (We don't run the upstairs unit.) He's been pulling himself up in the pack-n-play and standing up to find us when he doesn't want to go to sleep and when he wakes up. Well this weekend he tried to come find me after he stood up and fell out of the pack-n- play. So I decided I couldn't push it any longer. I mean the top of it came across his thighs. I obviously pushed it too long. It was no longer a safe place for him to be. I thought about lowering it again but it was too close to the floor and the draft kept him congested. I purchase the Summer video monitor once it came off of a recall. Apparently two babies wrapped the cord around their necks and died. We mounted ours on the wall instead of sitting it next to his bed to avoid this. Doug had to lower the crib. He only used it once at it's highest setting. That was for a nap during Christmas Break. We spent quite a bit of time in his room after bathtime, reading a book and letting him jump on the bed so he could remember the place. Later that night we didn't bother to lay him down while he was awake. I wasn't so sure if he'd put himself to sleep in a new place. After Doug put him to sleep he stayed sleep ALL night. Of course I can't say the same thing for Mommy. I was up every couple of hours looking at that monitor. If I heard a cough or any movement, I was up. I am sure I will get adjusted and sleep soundly soon. Another big move is that he is drinking formula most of the day at daycare. He takes one breastmilk bottle in the morning. The rest of the day he has formula. The weaning process has begun! My goal is to stop pumping at 9 months. So I have a couple more weeks left. I have several bags frozen so he will be able to continue having breastmilk for a little while. But I'm down to pumping twice a day and actually nursing once a day. He took the formula like he had been drinking it all the time, which we all know isn't true. I think the introduction to different foods and tastes helped him accept the Similac this time. The time is going by so fast! He's doing big boy things.
