Yesterday Khalil's umbilical cord finally fell off. It was attached for 3 weeks. The first week we were home we used the alcohol swabs they gave us in the NICU. When we took him to the doctor for his first visit she said to stop using those because it didn't have enough alcohol in it. So basically I felt like we were starting from stratch the second week. Well family members had started asking about it being on there for so long. They even suggested that we put alcohol on it EVERY diaper change. Dr. Webster and the NICU nurse had made it very clear to only do three times per day. They mentioned something about the alcohol killing the good bacteria if we did it too much. Apparently our Moms and Dads did it every diaper change and it would fall off in a week. I wasn't willing to intentionally violate the doctors orders so I was very patient and continued to do it three times a day. Well it finally came off and he has the cutest belly button ever! I took a picture. :-)
Well since the cord can not get wet he has been taking sponge baths. He has not liked them one bit. He will let me clean his legs but when it's time to do the upper body he has a fit. I can not wait to see what he has to say about a REAL bath. I'm sure I'll have a post soon about that.
